[this journal contains spoilers from all the Killzone games, if you don't want them spoiled, don't read]

Ok, Has anyone else ever played the Killzone games and realized that the ISA (the guys you play as) are actually the bad guys, not the Helghast

first of all let me start off by saying that i know that some members of the Helghast government are just completely mad and evil like Colonel Radec and Chairman Stahl, but this goes for the Helghan people in general and not just these individuals.

Allow me to explain, in the beginning of the Killzone universe, all the earth colonies were part of an organisation known as the ISA (Interplanetary Strategic Alliance) after nuclear wars on Earth forced humanity to look for new homes of distant planets, but resources were scarce. The Helghan Corporation, eventually got enough money to to go and colonize planets. They came a planet rich in resources, Helghan, but because of Helghan's volatile atmosphere and poor ecosystem it wasn't suited for human colonization. However a nearby Earth-like planet which they named Vekta, was perfect for colonization.

At this time the Helghan Corporation were still part of the United Colonial Army (UCA). The buit after Earth started imposing taxes onto the Helghan Corporation for having a monopoly on Vekta and Helgan, the Helghast naturally wanted the secede from the UCA. The Helghast took control of all the ISA bases on Vekta and Helghan. But the UCA fleet arrived and completely wiped out the Helghast fleet, and bombarded the Helghast forces on Vekta forcing them to surrender. The fleet then blockaded and took over the two planets, showing that you do not mess with the UCA and everyone must obey Earths will or face destruction. The surviving members of the Helghast Corporation were then exiled and forced to live on the hostile planet of Helghan.

so as you can see so far, the Helghast just wanted independence, but instead, the got invaded, decimated, humiliated and forced to live a life of hardship on the hostile world of Helghan.

After years of hardship they grew on Helgan, but were changed by Helghans atmosphere, mutating their bodies and killing most of the first generation that lived there, all the citizen required breathing masks to live on Helghan although some of the later generations gained increased biological resistance and no longer needed the breath masks. Eventually, Scholar Visari rose to power, and turned Helghan into a military superpower and they tried to take back what they own, Vekta, but the ISA defeated the Helghast and rebuilt Vekta to prepare for the invasion of Helghan.

So in the Second and third games The Helghast are defending their home from invaders. At the end of Killzone 2, Scholar Visari was killed by an ISA soldier even though he was ordered to capture him alive, and at the end of Killzone 3, the ISA actually destroy Helghan and wipe out nearly all of it's billions of inhabitants.

so let me summarize,

The ISA (the guys you play as)
- imposed Taxes on the Helghast forcing them to rebel
- invaded and took over their world of Vekta
- forced the Helghast to live on the hostile world of Helghan
- then invaded their home world of Helghan
- killed their leader
- and finally, Destroyed Helghan and wiped out the population of the planet

Sounds like something the bad guys would do to me, doesn't it?
